In 1950 the large bunker was added to the site. At that time it was thought that the main soviet threat was from aircraft so the original WW2 site was upgraded with a large two level concrete bunker and some other buildings. This building is the same design as the one at Mistley in Essex. Unfortunately there has been a fire at some stage and the bunker is totally gutted inside although the structure is sound. Due to his ongoing dispute with English Heritage the owner wouldn't let me have a look inside but I hope that one day in the not too distant future I may be able to take a few pictures. Again the owner has no plans to remove the building, indeed he has planning permission to use it for Laser Quest so its future would seem to be safe. Interestingly, English Heritage have decided to schedule the rest of the site but are not interested in the bunker or its associated buildings.
